Meet Joseph Smith

Dr. Joe is a 1983 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. He then continued on at Pitt’s Dental School where he earned his Doctorate in Dental Medicine. Upon graduation in 1987 Dr. Joe moved to Wexford to open his practice on Brandt School Road in Franklin Park where he has practiced for the last 30 years. His sister Dr. Karen Smith Saundry joined him a year later in 1988.
Dr. Smith is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA) as well as the Pennsylvania Dental Association. He served as president of the North Pittsburgh Chapter of the PDA for 3 years in the 90’s. Dr. Smith is also a member of the International Dental Implantology Association and is currently working towards his Fellowship in that organization. Dr. Joe has served as the president of the North Allegheny Wrestling Association from 2010-2015. He is presently a member of the Board of Directors for the Pitt Wrestling Club (University of Pittsburgh wrestling team).
Dr. Joe is also a charter member of the 100+ Caring Men for Pittsburgh, a new organization which raises funds specifically for local charities in the Pittsburgh area.
Dr. Smith is married with 2 sons. His wife Darlene is a 1986 graduate of Pitt’s Dental Hygiene program and works in the office as a hygienist and part time office manager. Their oldest son Jake is a biomedical engineer who works for an athletic helmet design company (Winpact) in Leesburg Virginia where he lives with his fiance’ Carly (Brailer). Dr. Joe and Darlene’s youngest son is a junior at Pitt majoring in chemistry with plans for medical or dental school in the future.
Dr. Joe is an avid outdoorsman. He enjoys kayaking, hiking, fishing, and archery hunting at his cabin on the Clarion River. He is a big fan of high school and college wrestling and is a regular in the stands at North Allegheny football and lacrosse games. And even though he is an old guy now, he still enjoys hitting the gym at the Oxford Athletic Club 3 or 4 times a week.
